For Immediate Release: Brandon Peters Endorsed By AFGE

For Immediate Release: August 9, 2018

[TALLAHASSEE, Fla.] Today Democratic frontrunner Brandon Peters was endorsed by the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) for both the primary and general elections in Florida’s 2nd Congressional District.

AFGE is the largest union in the nation for federal employees and represents federal workers in the district across a multitude of defense-related agencies like Naval Support Activity Panama City, Tyndall Air Force Base, and federal law enforcement agencies ranging from the Department of Homeland Security to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Peters, an attorney and professional mediator who resides in Levy County, is proud to accept the endorsement of the AFGE and its more than 700,000 members across the nation. Upon the announcement of the endorsement, Brandon had the following statement:

“This is a pivotal time for our nation, our economy, and for workers here at home in Florida, and across the entire country. During a time of unprecedented attacks on working men and women by President Trump, Congressman Neal Dunn, the Supreme Court, and Republicans in Congress, we need a Representative who doesn’t just pay lip service to working families, one who is willing to roll up his sleeves and fight every day to create a brighter future for working Americans.

“The labor movement has been a critical ally to my campaign thus far, and with the support of AFGE, I know we are building a strong campaign that will retire Neal Dunn and bring back strong Democratic leadership for North and North Central Florida.”

Ray Coleman, Jr., President of AFGE Local 1570, stated:
“Brandon Peters had not shied away from his stances as a Progressive in favor of workers rights. He supports great legislative ideas and goals that will benefit not only civil service workers but also veterans across the state of Florida and the nation.

“I can tell you from a ‘Boots on the Ground’ perspective that he’s truly pro-union/pro-labor. His assertive and direct approach to tackle issues head on in search of favorable outcomes is what we need from our Congressman.”

Ahead of the August 28th primary, more than 14 leading statewide community organizations, national labor unions, and local labor unions have expressed their support for Brandon Peters’ campaign for Congress, and the campaign is blanketing the district with voter outreach ahead of the primary. With the unified support of organized labor behind it, the campaign is surging in the polls and has a clear path to victory in both August and November.

The Peters campaign has directly contacted more than 30,000 voters in the 2nd Congressional district. To learn more about Brandon and his Labor-backed campaign, including how to get involved in its grassroots efforts, visit
